The latest updates on the Knicks’ assistant coach search.

The Knicks officially announced that Keith Smart, Royal Ivey, Pat Sullivan, and Jud Buechler will join David Fizdale‘s staff. See the original reporting below.

Kaleb Canales will also join the staff. He has been with Dallas since 2013.

Howard Eisley will be the lone leftover from Jeff Hornacek‘s staff, but his role with the team has yet to be defined.

Keith Smart will be Fizdale’s top assistant. Learn more about Smart.

The Knicks are finalizing a deal to hire Royal Ivey as an assistant under David Fizdale.

Pat Sullivanwill also join Fizdale’s staff. Sullivan has connections with Scott Perry from the time they spent together in Detroit.

Jud Buechler has finalized a contract with the Knicks. The Laker assistant won three titles with Phil Jackson in Chicago. Learn more about Buechler.

New York will not be bringing back any of the previous assistants under Hornacek, with the possible exception of Howard Eisley.

Pat Delany had been named as another potential candidate. He came up through the Miami Heat system as a video coordinator and advanced scout when Fizdale was there. However, he will likely be hired to join Steve Clifford’s staff in Orlando.

It was reported that Nick Van Exel is expected to join the Knicks coaching staff. But Van Exel has shot down that report. For the second time, he responded to a Daily News report. He then doubled down against the rumor in responding to a Knicks fan.

Meanwhile, Mike Woodson apparently made a play to become an assistant, but Fizdale ultimately passed to hire a younger staff. Woodson, who coached with Fizdale in Atlanta and shares the same agent, is now expected to be hired by the Suns.
