Former Nets guard and Grizzlies radio announcer, Elliot Perry, talks about why Fizdale was excited to take the Knicks job:
“We’ve texted back and forth, and when I was congratulating him on the job, one thing interesting he said was the challenge of it all interested him,’’ Perry told The Post. “He knows it’s going to be a challenging, tough job. He’s a guy who’s up for the challenge of being in New York, being in the big city, being on the stage.
“That’s the one thing I mentioned to him. You’re never off stage in New York as head coach. You’re not always on the stage in Memphis. He wanted the challenge. He thinks there’s talent there. He thought it was a good fit.”
“I think it’s a good move,’’ Perry said. “But it depends on what an organization wants. Do you want a coach that really can think outside the margins? He operates outside the margin. Fizdale is not a traditional coach. He communicates with his players — at times to make players uncomfortable.’’
