The Knicks give up an NBA playoff game record 157 points in losing to the Celtics.
The loss put the Knicks in a daunting 0-2 deficit in the first round series. In some ways, this moment was similar to the Yankees 19-8 drubbing over the Red Sox in Game 3 of the 2004 ALCS. Beyond the series count, the outlandish score made a comeback seem impossible. Of course, history knows the Red Sox came back to win that 2004 series, just as the Knicks would comeback to win this series in 1990.
It wasn’t exactly this moment, as the Knicks took one more season to really get going, but in transition from the dominance of the Celtics in the 80s to the competitiveness of the Knicks in the 90s, ironically, this game marks an important point.
